Breaking Strongholds

Image
Hey Chosen! I’m happy to be back with you another month. This time around I will present our discussion through a personal testimony. So brace yourselves for my transparency! Let’s first get an understanding of what a stronghold is so it’s easier to appreciate the process of overcoming them. A Stronghold is defined as a fortified place, according to the Merriam-Webster dictionary. It’s a compound word; if you should break it up and think about it, that should provide you with some insight. For the purpose of this discussion, a stronghold is not always a physical place but anything that holds you strongly that is not of God. Bear in mind that the thing itself may not be bad but the context in which it is affecting you is. 2 Corinthians 10:4 tells us “(For the weapons of our warfare  are  not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds;)” . So the Bible speaks to the fact that they need to be pulled down. It goes on to say in verse 5 “Casting down imagination

10 Wholesome Ways A Christian May Spend Leisure Time

Image
Hello Chosen, Glad to see you sticking with me. And if you’re new, welcome! I haven’t been keeping in touch with you as often as I'd like but hey, that’s life, it gets hectic sometimes. Going forward, I will try to write to you at least once per month. And along that line, I couldn’t let this month end without bringing you greetings. Happy New Year!!! I truly hope you get all the good desires of your heart this year and beyond. Amidst all our busyness, we do need some time for relax, right? Right! And as we have mentioned before, there is a time for this, so there is no need to feel guilty about it. Even Jesus, sometimes went away with his disciples, from the crowds he often taught to rest. A lot of evidence of this is found in the Gospels. Here are a few passages you may read to find evidence of this: Matthew 14:22-23 ( bit.ly/Matthew14-22 ) Mark 6:30-32 ( bit.ly/Mark6-30 ) Luke 22:41 ( bit.ly/Luke22-41 ). Is Church Attendance Really Necessary?

Image
Hola Chosen! Good to be back with you…finally…right?! Lol I wouldn’t let you end the year without hearing from me. So let’s get right into our discussion… Of course, this is not a new topic. Persons have long been debating it and we have somewhat touched on this topic before and because of its importance, I think we should revisit. Now there is a ton of information out there about why we should go to church and there are arguments for the other side too; so I won’t write you ‘12 Reasons to…’ but instead, I’ll direct you to some of what I have found and share a bit of my experience. Photo by: Luis Quintero Friends, you’re probably expecting me to share with you points to back up my opinion and I will, but I also like to explore things from others’ point of view as well. In doing so, I found an interesting article titled Why Attending Church No Longer Makes Sense http://bit.ly/tonotgotochurch . Firstly, the author is a pastor and he states that he can only find two compe

How Should We Pray?

Image
Hello Chosen! Thanks for joining me again. We have spoken about the importance of prayer before in a Christian’s life, but how should we pray? I believe something so important should be done in a way that pleases God and affords us the maximum benefits. I’m not saying prayers should be monotonous but approaching prayer with structure, does help. How often do we go to pray, and we don’t know what to say? Or we hear someone else praying and we wonder how did they think of all those things to say? Well, that used to happen to me a lot and still does happen at times. What we’ll discuss won’t be a rigid formula for prayer but simply a guide. After all, prayer is a conversation with God; but the most important conversation we can ever have. The information I’ll share is not new information as with anything discussed on this blog but just a topic I find worthwhile to bring to our forethoughts. (Source: ibelieve.com)   In Luke 11 , one of Jesus’ disciples asked him to t

Sharpening The Saw

Hi Friends! I know, I know it’s been a long while, three months to be exact. Who would have thought that I would have stayed away so long from you? However, life happens. A bit of housekeeping before we jump into today’s topic; I had promised that I would do two things soon and I am happy to report that I did. I wrote out my life’s mission and vision statements and I apologized to the cousin I was malicing (let’s call it what it really was). See, I’m a woman of my word and I feel so much better for it, yay me 😊 Now, what I want to explore with you today is the importance of leading a synergistic life or as the title states Sharpening the Saw . This article was inspired by Stephen Covey’s book The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People that I read earlier this year. By the way, that is one of my recommended reads. My interpretation of Sharpening the Saw is that we should constantly be working on four core aspects of our being; body, mind, heart and soul. I use the term synergy

Forgiveness: I Let Go Of A Long Held Grudge

Image
Hello dear friends! This time around I’d like to share with you an experience I had and how the power of God worked in that situation. I have a family member that I didn’t speak to for a number of years. Prior to that situation we had a fairly good relationship. Then we had a brawl about something that was important to me. And since then, we didn’t speak to each other for about two years. However, with the help of another family member we eventually made up. Fast forward a couple years later and we were at a similar place to not speaking to each other again. No, there was no brawl this time, lol. I just decided that a relationship with that person would be too toxic for me and given our rocky past; decided to ‘cut them off’. What had happened this time is that I found the person to be meddling too much in my immediate family life and to me it was actually a repeat of past situations. I didn’t believe this was just an issue to be resolved but rather a defect in their personality a

How I Get All I Need To Do Done And Not Drive Myself Crazy

Image
Hello Chosen! For the past few weeks I realize that I have been feeling a bit stressed with the totality of all that goes on in my life. At present, the main themes in my life are my Christianity and church, my job, personal development activities and a few volunteer activities. Important, but not too time consuming are family based activities and social activities. Even though I haven’t listed the specific tasks, I’m not sure if that seems a lot to you or just a little, but for me it’s enough to keep me on my toes. So it does feel a bit overwhelming at times. And although I’m writing this to share with you, it’s very much for me also to air out my thoughts and remind myself of the strategy I know that works for me and perhaps can work for you too. (Courtesy of: psychologytoday.com) Before we get into the approach, let me just say we firstly need to know who we are and whose we are. Jesus was fully man here on earth so he went through the same things we go through, but
