How Do We Overcome Temptations?

Image
Hello Chosen, welcome back! If you’re new, it’s good to have you J Overcoming temptations is a very interesting topic, if I do say so myself. Allow me to just jog your thoughts a bit. Do you think non-Christians are not tempted? Do you think that new believers have finally escaped and will no longer be tempted? Or mature Christians have passed that stage and will not face temptation? Let’s see if we can answer those questions while we explore the main question that we are trying to answer, How Do We Overcome Temptations? Let us first try to understand what Temptation is before we get to how to overcome it. Bishop Robert Ellis describes temptation as an enticement to do evil or a desire to abstain from doing good. Let me guess, you didn’t expect that second part, did you? Well James 4:17 says “Therefore to him that knoweth to do good, and doeth it not, to him it is a sin.” http://bit.ly/Jam4-17 . For that reason, we can say in essence that temptation is a pull towards evil or...

I’m A New Christian, Now What?

Glory be to God! Deciding to become a follower of Christ, is the best decision you could ever make in your life. And you are indeed,  Chosen . Now, you are completely a new person and who you were before doesn't really matter. Friends, I sort of found this a bit hard to wrap my head around. Like, I’ve heard the term ‘born again’ throughout my previous life but now I fully understand it. Growth may be defined as “the process of developing physically, mentally or spiritually” according to the Oxford Dictionary. So just as a new born baby needs to experience growth in order to move from his baby stage, new Christians need growth in order to improve our relationship with Christ. Not only do we just need to grow, we should Grow in Grace. B.B. Warfield defines grace a...

Responding to Your Calling: Discovering Your Purpose

Did you know you are chosen? "But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light:" 1 Peter 2:9  http://bit.ly/2UQqR28 . Therefore I will call you Chosen . Chosen, at some point in our lives we have all felt in some way or another that there is something more to our lives than we are experiencing now. You may even feel as though you are merely existing and not truly living and may be, right now, intensely searching for something beyond yourself- something bigger, something greater, searching for a greater meaning to life. I can relate, as I have also walked the road of trying to find my own purpose in this life, attempting to fill the gut-wrenching emptiness with all sorts of things. But one glorious day, my life changed, I had a powerful and transformational encounter with the true and living God – Jesus Christ who has brought...
