I’m A New Christian, Now What?

Glory be to God! Deciding to become a follower of Christ, is the best decision you could ever make in your life. And you are indeed, Chosen. Now, you are completely a new person and who you were before doesn't really matter. Friends, I sort of found this a bit hard to wrap my head around. Like, I’ve heard the term ‘born again’ throughout my previous life but now I fully understand it. Don’t take my word for it, it says so in 2 Corinthians 5:17, “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.” But after birth, comes growth.

Growth may be defined as “the process of developing physically, mentally or spiritually” according to the Oxford Dictionary. So just as a new born baby needs to experience growth in order to move from his baby stage, new Christians need growth in order to improve our relationship with Christ. Not only do we just need to grow, we should Grow in Grace. B.B. Warfield defines grace as “free sovereign favour to the ill-deserving”. We can only get grace from God and he wants us to have it. The Bible says in 2 Peter 3: 18 “But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and for ever. Amen.”. Chosen, picture all the things you have done in your lives. I can imagine that it’s not all good as is the case for me. But what if there was a way where we would not get exactly as we deserve for all our actions? Alas, there is a way, that is Grace.

If there is no growth, then there is no life. The sermon Growing in Grace http://bit.ly/2GPbtOw provides an in depth description of what growing in grace is, evidence of it and the means to achieve it.

As A Baby Grows, So Do New Born Christians Need To Grow

In coming into an intimate relationship with Christ, just as we would be inclined to do in any other relationship, we need to get to know him better. In doing so, there are some actions that we must perform regularly to achieve this:

1.       Develop a Prayer Life – Prayer is simply having a conversation with God. And it is the most noble utterance that can come from the tongue. It is essential that we develop a consistent prayer life. And not only when we feel like praying but always. http://bit.ly/1Thes5--17

2.       Study the Bible – God speaks through his word and he will never go outside it. So everything God has to say is in it. Our lives should be guided by the Word of God – the Bible. http://bit.ly/Ps119-11

3.       Attend Church Regularly – Fellowship with other believers is extremely important, you should seek a ministry that speaks to your particular needs. The church will provide a base for your spiritual needs. http://bit.ly/1Cor12--12

Pray Together

Friends, now is not the time to relax, you have to work while God reveals his purpose within you. Allow the Holy Spirit to work in you; to do that you need to grow constantly. The intention is for you to move from Infancy to Discipleship to Maturity. Consistently performing the required actions mentioned will help to take you from Infancy through to Maturity; helping you to grow in grace. Maturity will not be based on the length of time you are a Christian but your production of the Fruit of the Spirit as outlined in Galatians 5: 22-23 http://bit.ly/Gal5-22-23. Chosen, Grow in Grace!
